So a lot of people have been wanting me to do a few indie bands, so I'm going to give you a few here this week. First, gotta start with The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye), amazing RnB indie artist from Toronto, Ontario. It's hard to call him Indie when he has been blowing up over the past year, but his new mainstream success I'm sure will continue to peak within the next 6 months. On March 2011, a 9 song mixtape was released House of Balloons, which is apart of a trilogy which also includes Thursday, which was released on August 18th 2011, and Echoes of Silence which is said to be released this Autumn. The Weeknds song High for This was featured on the final season of HBO's Entourage as a promo trailer. House of Balloons was nominated for a Polaris Music Prize on June 16th 2011. Last weekend, I was able to see The Weeknd perform in Guelph Ontario at Guelph Concert Theatre, which was jam packed. He delivered an amazing set, with two encore performances.
